Team NBCF is one team with one goal

April 18th, 2017

Since arriving in Australia, Federico has taken on the City2Surf every year for fun and fitness. In 2016, the day took on a whole new meaning for him after his girlfriend’s mother was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer.

“I looked into the various breast cancer charities and NBCF’s message and mission resonated the most with me,” says Federico.

“Fundraising for breast cancer research means that one day, no woman or man will have to suffer the ordeal of having breast cancer and going through the physical and emotional pain of the whole process. These things take time and money (usually lots of it). After  having been personally affected by cancer, I know that we all need to give as much support and funding as possible to the individuals trying to find a cure or better treatment alternatives.”

By race day, Federico had raised $2,135 for NBCF. He says he owes his success to sharing his experience with supporters. “Email as many people as you can, and advertise on social media. People are busy, so remember keep your message simple and your story succinct.”

He says the best moment was meeting other Team NBCF members on the day. Federico was inspired after discovering that some team members were breast cancer survivors themselves. He also says his girlfriend’s mother really enjoyed spending time at NBCF’s finish line marquee, talking about her breast cancer journey and realising how much support people had for those affected by the disease.

This year Team NBCF have a $150,000 fundraising goal for City2Surf. We are one team, with one goal; zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
