July 31st, 2016

Since her interest in science at school in India, Dr Chandrika Deshpande’s passion has grown into a career that helps people live longer healthier lives. Today she conducts research at the Centenary Institute in Sydney, and with funding from NBCF she’s looking into the complexities of chemotherapy resistance in the treatment of breast cancer.

She says that understanding the breast cancer resistance protein, which is the focus of her project, would be a really important step towards radically better treatment of breast cancer, and she hopes her research is able to contribute to a world with no deaths from cancer.
