Elaine Henry New Chair of NBCFSeptember 27th, 2012
Ms Elaine Henry OAM assumed the Chair of the National Breast Cancer Foundation on 26 September, succeeding Mr Greg Paramor who spent two years in the role. Elaine has served initially as a founding Trustee, and subsequently as a Director of NBCF for a total of 17 years.
At the end of 2010 Elaine stepped down after almost 13 years as Chief Executive Officer of The Smith Family. In the previous 13 years, Elaine was the Executive Director of the Cancer Council (NSW). She was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1994 and a Doctorate of Letters (h.c.) from the University of NSW in 2006 for her eminent service to the community and community health, particularly her contribution to the control of breast cancer. She played a major role in developing the model for Australia’s breast screening program, oversaw the establishment of the National Breast Cancer Centre and Breastscreen NSW and convened the National Steering Committee for Australia’s inaugural Breast Cancer Day.
“I consider it a great privilege to be able to build on the impressive work of my predecessors. NBCF has a talented team of professionals – staff and volunteers – dedicated to achieving our mission, and I look forward to having the opportunity of working with the CEO, Carole Renouf, to take the organisation through its next phase of growth,” comments Elaine.
