Interview with Fundraising Extraordinaire Tonia Wood

October 1st, 2014

photo1We would like to highlight one incredibly special Ramsay Healthcare Triathlon participant – Tonia Wood.

When Tonia saw an advertisement for Triathlon Pink she thought it would be the perfect way to honour her sister, who passed away from breast cancer eleven years ago and to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Since the first event 2007 she feels privileged to have raised over $32,000 for breast cancer research– and is looking forward to supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation again at the Parramatta Triathlon Pink in October 2014!

Tonia thanks her very loyal and supportive network of friends, family and work colleagues for her fundraising success again this year.

What do you love about the Pink Triathlon?

I love the supportive atmosphere, the physical challenge and the fundraising opportunity, but mostly for the chance to take part in a non-threatening celebration of sisterhood.

What is your advice to first time Pinkies?

Have faith in your training and you will amaze yourself in what you can achieve. Because of the friendly non-threatening atmosphere of Triathlon Pink, you will become hooked and like me, you will keep coming back for more every year!

What is your favourite memory from Triathlon Pink?

My first Triathlon Pink in 2007 was the most memorable because I shared it with 2012 Olympic Bronze Medallist, Erin Densham. I ‘won’ Erin for the day as I was the highest fundraiser that year.  She accompanied me around the course and gave me confidence and encouragement.  She is such a great gal and we are still friends.
