Mitch Runs for the Women Close to His Heart

June 23rd, 2014

As a family-oriented guy and keen runner, Mitch had wanted to participate in City2Surf for years. Last year, he thought to himself “This is the year!”

A few friends filled Mitch in on the fact that most participants make every stride count by fundraising for a cause close to their hearts. With two of his greatest role models diagnosed with breast cancer, Mitch knew the National Breast Cancer Foundation was the clear choice.

“She was stronger than anyone else I know, she wouldn’t let anything bring her down and she beat the odds again and again even when doctors said she may not make it. Nana was one of the reasons I first chose NBCF,” Mitch recalls.

The second reason he chose to support NBCF was his Aunty Kym, who from day one faced her breast cancer diagnosis head on with nothing but positivity. Two years later, she was completely clear.

During Mitch’s fundraising experience from training to race day, he was blown away by NBCF’s support.

“I thought their first call after registration was just a courtesy that all team members get when they choose NBCF as their charity, but little did I know that it was only the start of their continual contact and support – offering their time and resources to help me meet my fundraising goals. NBCF make you feel part of the team,” says Mitch.

Mitch feels confident that every cent he has raised will be put to great use to help find a cure for breast cancer.

“It has been a real honour and privilege to run for NBCF, and you can bet I will join them again next year!”
