Tino I love all of the characters I meet on the streets

Tino, 21, had seen the pink ribbon around from a young age, but didn’t realise how significant it was to so many people until he started fundraising for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

“A couple of weeks ago I had a woman approach me asking me what I was doing. When I explained to her that I was fundraising for NBCF she asked to get her name down for a regular donation straight away. The woman then explained that she was visiting her three aunties that all had breast cancer. I was extremely inspired by this woman, the kindness and generosity she showed made me realize how worthwhile and fulfilling my job is and what a fantastic cause NBCF is.”

Tino’s from Cambridge, England and decided to go travelling when he was 19. When landing in Sydney he bumped into a street fundraising team.

“And the rest is history”, he says.

After just 6 months of fundraising he has been promoted to a team leader and is in charge of up to five fundraisers each day.

“I love all of the characters I meet on the streets. They all have such amazing stories to tell. I love being part of a team and having fun with my team mates, while at the same time still making a difference.”

He is especially passionate about the fight against breast cancer.

“Working on a charity knowing that I can help so many women fight the battle against breast cancer makes me immensely proud to work for NBCF. Having many female friends and family, I was shocked to learn that 1 in 9 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and 8 women die from it every single day. I also love the pink shirts!”
