Institution: National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre
National Translational Research Grants Program
Comprehensive, accessible data is a vital part of any effort to improve the quality of care and outcomes for Australian women being treated for breast cancer. The expansion and enhancement of the National Breast Cancer Audit to enable the capture, analysis and dissemination of more information will provide valuable data on the surgical management of women with early breast cancer.
This information will then be available to compare pooled data against Australian and international benchmarks, to guide policy, education and research efforts as well as facilitating the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons quality improvement processes.
Publications arising from the audit will provide information to both consumers and the medical community. The audit data will also facilitate monitoring of performance against Australian and international standards. This information can be used to inform continuing education and quality improvement activities.
