When NBCF set itself the aspirational goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030, its single minded focus was to enable researchers to fill the knowledge gaps so we could achieve this goal.
Project 2030 was created to address one of the major causes of death in cancer patients-metastasis.
Metastasis is the process by which the cancer cells leave the primary site of the tumour and spread to other parts of the body.
There are still eight women a day that we lose to breast cancer because their cancer has spread from the breast to other organs. A process that at present, is incurable.
Project 2030 is a team of dedicated researchers and supporters who focus their efforts towards solving the problem of metastasis.

Researcher: Professor Kirill Alexandrov; Institute for Molecular Bioscience, The University of Queensland
Experience: Professor Kirill Alexandrov obtained his Masters degree in Invertebrate Zoology and completed a PhD in Cell Biology. In 2004, he was awarded Germany’s highest career development fellowship, the Heisenberg Award. He joined the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) and The Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) at The University of Queensland in 2008 and has introduced high−throughput molecular cloning technology. He has filed eight patents, including one which has reached international phase.
