Your support helps fund research like Associate Professor Peter Simpson’s study, which aims to reveal genetic features unique to and responsible for the early onset of breast cancer. Samples from a cohort of more than 100 breast cancer cases diagnosed in women under the age of 40, will be analysed, some of which have a family history of the disease and others with no known family history.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in young women under 40 years with around 1000 new cases diagnosed every year in Australia. Breast cancer in young women tends to have different molecular characteristics and poorer overall survival outcomes to breast cancer diagnosed in older women. Unfortunately, cancer in young women commonly recurs after treatment and can spread to distant organs in the body.
Your generous support means Associate Professor Simpson and his team can gain a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for breast cancer in young women, which has the potential to lead to better detection, treatments and improve overall survival.
“We hope that developing more knowledge in this area will impact how we manage young breast cancer patients in the future. This might be through enhancing risk reducing strategies or screening opportunities or through better therapies. A very sincere thank you to everyone who donates to NBCF. Your support is incredibly important and valued,” said Associate Professor Simpson.
The work of Associate Professor Simpson would not be possible without the generosity of people like you. Thank you for helping us move closer to reaching our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
Thanks to your support, NBCF has developed a bold and transformational Pink Horizon Research Strategy which will see an investment of up to $125 million over the next five years. Through targeted and sustained funding, and a commitment to collaboration and impact, we will enable and accelerate the innovative research needed to end deaths from breast cancer. Thank you for helping us fund crucial breast cancer research that can save more lives.
Our research has four core objectives focused on ending deaths from breast cancer. Our objectives are underpinned by the need to minimise harm and maximise impact.

Recently NBCF supporters attended a behind the scenes research facility tour and presentation by NBCF CEO Associate Professor Cleola Anderiesz and NBCF-funded researcher Associate Professor Peter Simpson and his team.
Associate Professor Simpson’s research project aims to understand the causes of breast cancer in young women and is a University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research project, in collaboration with Brisbane Breast Bank and the Kathleen Cuningham Foundation Consortium for Research into Familial Breast Cancer (kConFab). Associate Professor Simpson will study tumour samples from patients who were diagnosed with breast cancer under 40 years of age.
One of NBCF’s high-value supporters, Oscar reflected on his experience at the lab tour. “What an inspiring and hope-renewing opportunity it was to recently meet the NBCF-funded researchers at the UQCCR precinct. Both my mum and I particularly enjoyed learning how Associate Professor Peter Simpson and his team are combatting this insidious disease and forging a path towards the end vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer in the near future,” said Oscar.
“You hear so much about how our best and brightest scientists are tirelessly working towards stopping breast cancer deaths once and for all. However, you gain an entirely different perspective once you stand alongside them as they don their white coats and hear from them first-hand (and thankfully in layman’s terms, to the benefit of us non-scientists) about how they’re finding solutions. We were filled with a deep sense of hope that meaningful progress is being made – continue your life-saving work NBCF!”
The collection is retailed online, instore, and in-salon, brought to life through the stories of their pink muses. This year, ghd is partnering with Lilly Chugg, Claudia Cataldo, Chantelle Spurling, and Sherri Knobel, who will share their own experiences to spread awareness and drive change.
For two decades, ghd has donated $20 from every pink tool sold to NBCF, raising over $4.73 million. ghd takes pride in their long-standing commitment and looks forward to continuing their partnership to improve breast cancer outcomes for many years to come. The ghd pink collection central to the organisation for the last 20 years has raised over $24 million USD for breast cancer charities globally. The partnership allows ghd to fund groundbreaking research, educate about the importance of early detection, and support NBCF’s vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
In addition to the ghd pink collection, each year the team at head office hosts a Pink Ribbon Breakfast event to raise additional funds and make all things to pink, including pink treats and tea. The team love coming together to support such an important cause and to increase awareness of breast cancer.
ghd recognises the extraordinary effort of all NBCF supporters and is honored to be part of a community that funds worldclass breast cancer research. A special thank you goes out to salon professionals, retail partners, and consumers for their ongoing support over the last 20 years, enabling ghd to continue supporting NBCF’s vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
Thanks to community support, we are able to work towards our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has access to the best possible care and outcomes.
NBCF is proud to partner with AMCAP, a leading supplier of Maintenance Service Kits to various mining companies. For every NBCF service cabinet deployed, AMCAP generously donates a portion of the sales to help fund world-class breast cancer research. To date, AMCAP has raised over $45,000 for NBCF, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to the cause.
AMCAP’s commitment doesn’t stop there. As their Industrial Maintenance Service Kit sales continue to grow, they hope to increase their fundraising targets and in turn increase their impact on breast cancer research. Their goal is clear: to make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by this disease.
The NBCF partnership holds immense significance for AMCAP and its employees. But it extends beyond their organisation. By branding their cabinets and containers with the NBCF logo, AMCAP creates awareness as these products travel throughout Western Australia. It’s a twofold mission to raise funds and educate the public about breast cancer prevention and early detection.
AMCAP actively participates in Breast Cancer Awareness Month each year by holding a Pink Ribbon Breakfast event and turning their office pink. By organising and supporting such events, they engage their employees and customers, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. Together, we can achieve our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
