December 2024
Your incredible support enables researchers funded by National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) like Associate Professor Tatyana Chtanova to develop new treatments for breast cancer.
Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) is one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer with limited treatment options due to the lack of hormone receptors.
The focus of this project is to develop an alternative immunotherapeutic approach by targeting the innate immune system, a part of the immune system that rapidly responds to bacterial infection. Associate Professor Chtanova has discovered that specialised white blood cells present in breast tumours can be re-programmed as anti-tumour fighting cells. The development of new immunotherapies with improved responses in breast cancer will be a significant advancement and result in improved outcomes for breast cancer patients.
In a previous study, Associate Professor Chtanova and her team were able to show that this approach can slow tumour growth and improve survival rates in preclinical models.
If successful, this project will provide the pre-clinical data necessary to develop new treatments for people with breast cancer including TNBC, most of whom do not currently benefit from existing immunotherapies.
This project and the many more funded by NBCF would not be possible without your generous support. Thank you for helping us move closer to our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
A year of progress and hope
As 2024 comes to a close, we wanted to thank you, our dedicated donors and cherish the incredible impact of your support. On behalf of everyone at National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) we wanted to thank you for your generosity which has been the driving force behind the progress we've achieved this year. It's because of individuals like you, committed to making a difference, that we've made significant strides towards our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. Thank you!
Thank you for being with us on our journey.
Together, we can make Zero Deaths from breast cancer a reality.
Adding a Gift in your Will helps our researchers to continue to make discoveries which will protect future generations from breast cancer.
Julia, Di and Kathy sadly lost their mother, Margaret, to breast cancer in 2022. Inspired by Margaret’s unwavering dedication to community service, the sisters have sought to continue her legacy by adding a gift to National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) in their Wills.
“We three sisters are survivors of breast cancer, but we lost our beautiful Mum to the disease in 2022. Mum cared passionately about giving back to her community and so do we. Adding a gift in your Will to support research gives us hope that no one else in our family will go through this.”
- Julia, Di and Kathy
A gift of even 1% of your Estate in your Will, after you have taken care of your loved ones, can help create a future where no one dies from breast cancer.
We understand that adding a gift in your Will is a very personal decision. You may request our Gift in Will information booklet, or if you would like to talk to our Gifts in Wills Team about the steps to create or change your Will to include a gift to NBCF, please get in touch on bequests@nbcf.org.au or phone Diana on 02 8098 4848.
Recently, Ash and the team at AAA Pet Resort held a ‘Wear it Pink Doggy Daycare Party’. They were inspired to fundraise for NBCF after one of their employees was diagnosed with breast cancer and they saw first-hand the impact that it had.
Fortunately, their team member is now in remission, but Ash and the team wanted to play their part and help the 58 people in Australia who are diagnosed with breast cancer each day.
“We truly believe that the joy and comfort a dog’s smile brings can make a meaningful difference to those facing difficult times. It’s our hope that this event will continue to grow and spread happiness and positivity to everyone involved. We can’t wait to see how it evolves with the community’s support.”
We love hearing about the creative ways our amazing community fundraisers help raise funds for world-class breast cancer research. Thank you for your incredible support!
The breast cancer research we fund would not be possible without you. We love hearing from our amazing donors like you and wanted to share a few messages with you.
“I work in healthcare, and I understand a good source of funding is very important in developing new techniques, exploring new treatments and ongoing progress in research. I am delighted to know what a difference we have made in healthcare!” - Charng, VIC
“My introduction to your excellent research was 10 years ago when my daughter at 62, was diagnosed with breast cancer in its early stages – she fully recovered thanks to your very important research. Thank you all.” – Dennis, NSW
“My sister died of cancer, emanating from breast cancer initially, 38 years ago when treatment was limited. Amazing research over the intervening years has transformed knowledge, treatment and therapies which may save the lives of her granddaughters. Life and hope have been given to so many. Thank you. – Maxwell, VIC
