Mission and Goals

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) exists to create a better tomorrow for people affected by breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. Its incidence is rising faster than any other cancer – with 8 women dying from the disease every single day.

Our mission is simple: stop deaths from breast cancer.

How? By identifying, funding & championing world-class research – research that is helping us detect tumours earlier, improve treatment outcomes, & ultimately – save lives.

We know that targeted breast cancer research gets results.

Since our inception in 1994, NBCF has awarded more than $162 million to fund 514 Australian-based research projects. With no government funding, this money has been raised entirely by the Australian public.

In this time, 5 year survival rates have improved from 76% to 90%. But there’s still much to be done.

While more women are surviving an initial diagnosis of breast cancer, their chance of survival becomes significantly lower when breast cancer spreads.

Breast cancer is a complex collection of sub-types, and some are particularly difficult to treat.

As the leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research, we are committed to finding better diagnostic tools, preventative measures and treatments. It’s the only way we will work out how to stop ALL tumour types in their tracks.

With the community in our corner, we can.

As we strive towards zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030, your donations are the difference.
