NBCF receives no government funding. What we do, would not be possible without the support and generosity of people like you. Our vision is simple: Zero Deaths from breast cancer. How? By identifying, funding and championing world-class research – research that will help us detect tumours earlier, improve treatment outcomes and ultimately – save lives.Since we started in 1994, we’ve invested over $170 million in over 534 breast cancer research projects across the country. We’ve seen remarkable results, but the job’s not done.

How do I register to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation?
A fundraising event can be big, small, simple or glamorous. It can be for 10 friends or 100 colleagues. Host it at home, work, school – anywhere. The choice is yours. Fundraising includes everything from morning teas to shaving your head. Every dollar makes a difference.
You can register online for the following events and campaigns:
You will receive an email once your application form has been successfully submitted. Allow 48 hours for a confirmation receipt to be issued. Approval can take between 5-7 working days.
If you prefer not to set up an online fundraising page, contact the friendly team by email at communityfundraising@nbcf.org.au or call 1300 803 551 and we’ll register you on our system.
Can I use Facebooks 'Fundraisers' option to promote my event?
While this is an option, we do not encourage using this platform. The best way to encourage friends and family to donate to your fundraiser is through the sharable link we send you. NBCF does not have communication with Facebook at this stage. While the money does come to NBCF, we are not advised of when. Therefore we will be unable to attribute any funds raised on Facebook, to your overall total on your Zero Hero Fundraising page.
What if the date of my event changes?
Please contact the friendly Supporter Relations team by email at communityfundraising@nbcf.org.au or call 1300 708 763 to advise them of the change of date. This is important, as you will need to be issued a new Authority to Fundraise with a new date.
Will NBCF help me promote my event?
If you use social media, the best way to publicise your event is through the NBCF Facebook Page and Twitter account.
You can upload and share your event photos directly onto our Facebook Page.
Can we approach any of NBCF's corporate partners for additional support?
As these companies are already very generous supporters of the Foundation and are approached frequently throughout the year, we ask that you do not approach these companies for financial sponsorship or in relation to prize donations. These companies are listed on the NBCF website.
Can I book one of your ambassadors at my event, and how do I do that?
While we are grateful for your support, it is not possible for NBCF to secure celebrities for your event. We may be able to offer one of our speakers, however.
Can I hold a contest/lottery/auction at the event I'm hosting?
Yes, you can. Lotteries and games of chance may be used to raise money for NBCF.
If you need more information on regulations for your state, download the contact information for each state here.
According to the Best Practice Guidelines of the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing NSW event costs should also not exceed 40% of total income.
Does NBCF provide public liability insurance?
NBCF is unable to provide public liability insurance cover to community fundraising events and/or coordinators. It is the responsibility of the event coordinator to arrange this in conjunction with the venue.
Can people who donate get a tax deductible receipt?
You can only provide a tax deductible receipt to someone who makes a donation without receiving a material benefit. You cannot provide a tax deductible receipt for donations made to a raffle, auction or to someone who provides goods, a service or general cash for sponsorship. If someone provides a large cash sponsorship donation, you can provide them with a letter to acknowledge their contribution. You can also inform NBCF with their details at the end of your event and we can provide them with a thank you letter for their sponsorship donation once the money has been received by NBCF. Online donations will be automatically receipted to the email address provided when the donation is made.
Do you have any tips to help with my fundraiser?
Yes, please visit our fundraising tips and tools page.
How long will people be able to donate to my page after my event?

CORPORATE
What is your question about?
What does a NBCF corporate partnership look like?
We build corporate partnerships based on joint business and social impact requirements. We take this strategic thinking as a core principle so that we are able to build long-term mutually beneficial partnerships that lead to positive outcomes across business and social communities.
Corporate partnerships can include elements of:
• Cause related marketing campaigns
• Corporate partnership collaborations
• Employee giving platforms
• Fundraising events/campaigns
• Pro bono business projects/services
• Research project alignment
• Volunteering opportunities
• Workforce engagement programmes
Please view case studies on our corporate partnerships.
Does NBCF have any restrictions on corporate partnerships?
To be eligible to claim your donation as a tax deduction, the donation must be;Two dollars ($2.00) or more and; The recipient charity must be endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a deductible gift recipient (DGR) organisation. The deduction must be claimed in your tax return for the income year in which the donation was made. The National Breast Cancer Foundation (ABN 37 144 841 707) is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a deductible gift recipient (DGR) organisation.
Is my corporate donation tax deductable?
There are strict requirements under the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) ruling in regards to donations and tax deductibility.
For a payment to be tax deductible:
= It must meet the definition of a ‘gift’ or donation i.e. is voluntary and no material benefit is received in return
= It must be made to a DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient). NBCF has DGR status
= The gift must be money or property
= The gift must meet gift conditions. For example, the requirement for cash is that it must be a minimum of $2 to be tax deductible, and you must have a valid tax receipt when claiming donations exceeding $10.
Note: When a donor receives large acknowledgement in return of a donation, it could prevent the payment from meeting the deductibility requirement.
When a payment is not a gift and considered a contribution (where a benefit is received in return), there is a minor benefit rule/condition that could be applied to the individual whereby they may only claim the relevant deductible amount. For example:
Amount paid must be more than $150 + benefit received must be no more than $150, and no more than 20% of the value of the contribution
Examples of minor benefit applications are available here
Can we donate from our company without being a partner?
Yes, corporate donations are most welcome. Please click here to donate or contact us at corporatepartners@nbcf.org.au
How do we become a corporate partner?
Please contact ouR team at corporatepartners@nbcf.org.au or click here to submit an application. We will get back to you within 48 hours.
Can I use the NBCF logo on a product I'm selling?
Organisations are not permitted to use the NBCF logo on the packaging of a product or on a product that is sold in a retail environment without an established partnership agreement. Please contact our team to submit an application .
RESEARCH
What is your question about?
- How do you decide which researchers get funding from NBCF?
- What is your vision?
- What breast cancer research projects do you fund?
- Do you fund projects into metastatic breast cancer?
- Do you collaborate with other cancer charities?
- Do you fund clinical trials?
- How can I join a clinical trial?
- Does your research support men too?
- I’d like to speak to someone directly about my enquiry.
How do you decide which researchers get funding from NBCF?
Each year an open and competitive call is issued for research proposals. To ensure integrity, accountability and transparency when awarding funds, NBCF coordinates a rigorous peer review process. The NBCF peer review process is integral to supporting the best breast cancer research in Australia. The effectiveness and sustainability of the review process depends on externally appointed scientific and consumer reviewers with wide-ranging expertise in cancer research. NBCF has privileged access to some of the best scientific minds on a volunteer basis. Outcomes of the applications reviewed by the scientific Peer Review Committees and Consumer Advisory Panels are presented to our Research Advisory Committee (RAC). The recommendations made by the RAC are then submitted to the NBCF Board of Directors for final decision and approval.
What is your vision?
The vision of NBCF is to fund excellent research that will have a substantial impact on breast cancer and helps us reach Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
What breast cancer research projects do you fund?
We fund world-class research projects to help identify risk factors, develop new ways to treat and monitor breast cancer, improve quality of life for breast cancer patients, improve treatment outcomes and ultimately-save more lives.
Do you fund projects into metastatic breast cancer?
Currently NBCF funds 26 projects studying metastatic breast cancer, which totals to about $16 million in research investment. The projects focus on finding new therapies, better ways of detecting and monitoring metastatic disease to a study evaluating the feasibility, safety and preliminary efficacy of an exercise and dietary intervention for women with metastatic breast cancer. In the last 3 years, we have distributed $11.5M over 19 projects directly addressing metastatic breast cancer.
Do you collaborate with other cancer charities?
In 2017 for the first time, NBCF and the Movember Foundation came together to jointly fund high impact translational research that spans both prostate and breast cancer to improve outcomes for men and women. In 2019 NBCF joined with Cure Brain Cancer Foundation to fund translational research that spans both primary brain cancer and breast cancers to improve the survival for people diagnosed with these diseases; in addition, NBCF has joined with Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation to fund translational research that tackles both breast cancer and ovarian cancer, with the potential to transform the clinical management of these conditions
Do you fund clinical trials?
Yes. While some later stage clinical trials can be extremely expensive and beyond the capacity of NBCF to support, it is possible for NBCF to fund small scale, early stage clinical trials. For example, NBCF is currently funding a research project that will undertake two early stage clinical trials to test the safety and effectiveness of a drug in patients with advanced (metastatic) breast cancer. This drug is currently in use for the treatment of blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma.
How can I join a clinical trial?
Unfortunately, we do not have the expertise to direct patients to clinical trials. Recruitment of patients to clinical trials requires the expertise of health professionals who need to accurately evaluate each individual participant for specific trials. It is best to consult with an appropriate health professional who can best advise on the possible clinical trials that you may be able to participate in. You may also try contacting the Cancer Helpline on 13 11 20 or Cancer Trials Australia. They may be able to best direct you to current trials.
Does your research support men too?
Yes, our research is not restricted to women and aims to help all Australians affected by breast cancer.
I’d like to speak to someone directly about my enquiry.
Please e-mail research@nbcf.org.au

Where should I go for medical support?
Early detection in breast cancer is extremely important so if you have noticed any changes in your breasts please see a health professional. Organisations such as the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) and the Cancer Council may also offer guidance in this area. You can contact BCNA on 1800 500 258 or call the Cancer Council helpline on 13 11 20.
Why is it important to support NBCF?
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. One in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. And more than 3000 Australians will die from breast cancer this year. Since NBCF’s inception in 1994, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer has improved from 76% to 91%. We’ve come a long way. But there’s still progress to be made. NBCF receives no government funding. What we do would not be possible without the support of the Australian public. By investing in game-changing research across the spectrum, including the areas of prevention and risk, detection, treatment outcomes and quality of life, you’ll be funding research that stops death from breast cancer. Research is the only way we can understand more about the cause and development of breast cancer – so that we can more effectively prevent, diagnose and treat it. Make tomorrow better and fund research today.

At all times, NBCF is mindful of its role in the community, as a leader, an innovator and a guardian of socially responsible good practice for its donors, staff and other key stakeholders. We need to do the right thing. In addition to reflecting and redrafting our organisation’s values, NBCF conducted a strategic review of its practices to ensure they are aligned to both the expectations of our staff and stakeholders, as well as complementing our cancer control mission. This has resulted in a shift in focus in our approach starting with our internal staff engagement, to the nature of our partnerships especially within the corporate sector, through to our ethical investment portfolio that goes beyond the omission of such issues as environment, to include key drivers of cancer causation
