Triathlon Pink raises $1 million dollarsDecember 7th, 2012
The Triathlon Pink all-female triathlon series started in 2007 with just two events, one in Sydney and one in Melbourne. Organised by The Event Crew, and sponsored by Ramsay Health Care, the event provides a challenging, yet fun and safe experience for women of all ages and fitness levels.
The series has gone from strength to strength to become the largest all-female triathlon series in Australia, with six events – in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Sunshine Coast. Participant numbers are increasing each year, with 23,000 Pinkies, as participants have affectionately become known, crossing the finish line since the series began.
In addition to promoting a healthy lifestyle, this community-based initiative has raised an exceptional $1 million for research funded by the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The money raised is evidence of the strong link and generosity of the Pinkies.
“This cause is very close to the hearts of many of the participants, who have either suffered from breast cancer themselves, have supported friends or family through the loss of someone or through their treatment into remission, ” said Event Director and Founder, Kerry Stubbs.
Our work can only continue because of the support from The Event Crew, Triathlon Pink participants and thousands more like them, who are dedicated to helping us reach our aspirational goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. We continue to fund even more research projects into the prevention and cure of breast cancer because of their time, expertise and generosity.
This year’s Triathlon Pink series still has two races to run in Melbourne and Brisbane. You can either compete as an individual, completing the whole course on your own, or get together with friends, family or work colleagues and compete as team. We encourage you to set up an online fundraising page for the National Breast Cancer Foundation when you register to help Triathlon Pink reach their fundraising goal of $250,000 for the 2012/13 series.
